Why people put it off
Three worries come up every time.
Switching feels like a hassle, so most businesses stay with a provider long after it stopped working for them. Here is the honest answer to each.
Will switching cause downtime?
No. The new setup is built and proven alongside the old one, and nothing cuts over until it works. Most staff notice nothing on the day.
What if our provider will not hand things over?
That is our problem rather than yours. We deal with them directly, document everything we are handed, and audit what they did not tell us. You never chase them again.
How much work is this for us?
We handle the bulk of the handover and work alongside you on the parts that genuinely need your call. You make the decisions, we do the lifting.
How it goes
The whole switch, start to finish.
Three steps before you commit to anything, then five once you have. The messy parts are ours.
Before you sign
-
01
A free call
Thirty minutes on what you are running now and what is not working. No obligation, and if staying put makes more sense, we will say so.
-
02
Price and scope in writing
If it is worth doing, you get the price and everything that is covered, set out in full, before you sign anything.
-
03
You give notice, we take it from there
You tell your current provider you are moving. From that point the handover is ours to run, not yours.
Once you have
-
01
Handover
We take whatever you have: logins, licences, documentation, and whatever your last provider left behind. Most of the time this is the messiest part, and it is ours to sort out rather than yours.
-
02
Tooling on
Monitoring, patching and security agents are deployed across your devices and servers. Until this is done nobody can tell you what you actually have, including us.
-
03
Audit
With visibility in place we go through everything: what is running, what is exposed, what is out of support and what is quietly about to fail.
-
04
Setup and remediation
We fix what the audit turned up, hardening, patching, backups and access, and write your environment down so it is documented rather than remembered.
-
05
Steady state
From here it runs. Monitoring and patching carry on in the background, you have a number to ring, and the Technology Business Reviews start.
What actually changes
Less chasing, fewer surprises.
What you stop doing
- Chasing somebody who said they would call back
- Explaining your setup from scratch every time you ring
- Finding out about problems from your staff
- Paying by the hour to fix the same thing twice
What you get instead
- A named local technician who knows your setup
- 24/7 monitoring that spots problems before your staff do
- Daily backups of your servers and Microsoft 365
- One fixed monthly price
The honest comparison
Same capability, different experience.
Much the same capability. A very different experience on the day you actually need help.
| What is being compared | Coast IT | Larger outsourced providers |
|---|---|---|
| Who you speak to | The same local people, who know your setup | Whoever picks up the queue |
| Where support comes from | Australia | Often an offshore help desk |
| When something breaks | Owned by somebody who knows your business | Logged, queued, escalated |
| On site when it is needed | Yes, we are local | Limited, or chargeable |
| How it is explained | Plain English | Jargon and account layers |
| What it costs | Published rates and a fixed monthly plan | Ring us for a quote |
Plenty of larger providers are very good at this. If you have five hundred staff across four states, that is genuinely not us. This is for the businesses the second column keeps letting down.

Questions about switching
How long does switching IT providers take?
It depends on the size of your setup and on what your current provider hands over, so we do not quote a number here. You get a timeline with the proposal, before you sign, and your team keeps working throughout.
Do we have to deal with our current provider?
Only to tell them you are leaving. After that we deal with them directly for logins, licences and documentation, and we audit anything they did not tell us about.
What about the contract with our current provider?
Check the notice period before you give notice. We will go through it with you and plan the start date around it, so you are not paying two providers for longer than you need to.
We do not have an IT provider at all. Is this for us?
Yes. There is no handover to manage, so we start with monitoring and an audit, and set things up properly from day one.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. Either of us can end the agreement with 60 days' written notice, and there is no payout fee for leaving. Anything already committed for you, such as Microsoft licences bought on an annual term, is still paid to the end of that term.
How is it priced?
Per user, per server and per site, from $119 per user per month excluding GST, so it tracks what you actually run rather than a flat figure that happens to suit us. One predictable monthly amount, with every inclusion and exclusion written down before you sign.
Let's plan your switch.
Thirty minutes, no obligation. We will go through what you are running now and what moving would involve, and if staying put makes more sense, we will tell you that.
Or send us a message
Got it, thanks.
Somebody will read this properly and come back to you. We get back to you within one business hour, Mon to Fri, and if you have sent it in the evening or over the weekend it will be the next business morning.
If something is down right now, do not sit and wait on us. Ring 1300 025 110 and we will pick it up.
That did not send.
Something went wrong at our end, so please ring 1300 025 110 or (07) 5638 1255, or email info@coastit.au. We would rather hear from you than lose the message.
